North Weald Airfield are the latest aerodrome to have an illuminated windsock system powered only by solar and wind.
The client opted for a solar and wind generated system to enable year round operation without the need for external power, the system is bespoke and built to suit the location.
This system has a 6m mast which is powder coated in red and white bands, the mast has a tilt down mechanism to make accessing the windsock effortless. The windsock is 3.6m in length and internally illuminated by two LED’s which are set within the windsock and shielded from the pilots view by a shroud. The LED’s are operated by an automatic photocell.
There is also an ICAO compliant LED red obstruction light at the top of the mast which operates 24/7.
This is a completely stand-alone illuminated windsock system with zero running cost and a minimal maintenance cost solution for any airport, heliport globally.
